Communications Intern

GARNEY CONSTRUCTION

A Communications Intern position (focused on internal communications) in Kansas City, MO is available at Garney Construction. This internship position will provide an opportunity for a currently enrolled college student or recent graduate to gain corporate communications knowledge from a construction company perspective. This position will involve learning to enhance employee engagement and retention by promoting a strong company culture through impactful, two-way communication. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• Assist in the execution and planning of internal communication strategies and initiatives to enhance employee engagement and maintain open communication channels.
• Participate and assist in internal communication projects through coordination efforts, brainstorming sessions, message development, writing, editing, and execution.
• Support the creation and maintenance of content for our company intranet and mobile app, GarneyOne, which serves as a central hub for information, updates, and tools necessary for daily operations.
• Collaborate with various departments, executive leadership, and regional champions to ensure consistent and effective communication across the organization.
• Focus on employee feedback and new hire communications tactics, including developing plans for consistent feedback and improving the onboarding experience.
• Provide support to the External Communications/Marketing team as needed.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Actively pursuing or have already obtained a degree in communications, marketing, business, journalism, or a related field
• Strong content writing and editing skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Experience in Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
